I'm helping my father-in-law get his external hardware to be recognized. In the settings, we've checked the boxes for using the joystick rather than the mouse, but it still reverts to the mouse.

[1] For the IL*2 Sturmovik simulator, we have:

  • X-56 Advanced Control Flight System joystick and thruster
  • Thrustmaster foot pedals
  • TARGET Thrustmaster software
  • TARGET GUI for the externals

Everything is plugged in, but once we launch the sim, connectivity of the peripherals is not recognized.

[2] Why does the IL*2 Sturmovik download and install every time we launch it? It takes about 15 mins every time. We have enough space on the hard drive.

[3] What part does STEAM play in this process? Is using STEAM optional and can we bypass it? How necessary is it? (We've set up an account, etc. but it never remembers or lets us log in)
