Sorry I missed the question.

I'm not quite sure what the problem is. After passing waypoint 4, you turn east toward the Thury-Harcourt and find yourself engaged in combat against 12 Fw 190s after Tennis-1 is attacked by them and requests assistance. Perhaps you started attacking ground targets and missed the big fight nearby?

Spoiler

Sorry Blacksix, my mistake, it wasn't mission 3 I was thinking of but the mission (5?) where the preamble for the following mission states that the Germans attacked us on return to the airfield after completing the mission. I didn't see any german planes at all on the way back from the mission.

The 5th mission is quite specific))

Spoiler

It's easy to miss them on the way back. However, this is a real situation and there was a battle, and I should have written about it in the next briefing. But how to act in the mission depends on the player; the Germans themselves won't attack unless you get too close.

half way now into the Ram squadron campaign, as part of my scripted campaigns tour of the Allied western campaign.

A few thoughts:

- hand made missions are uncomparable with auto generated ones. The level of detail, the fact that you ALWAYS find something to tangle with on your egress and ingress path is very immersive.

- lots, lots, lots of planes in the air. friends and foe, high and low !

- the difficulty: well, compared to @BlackSix previous campaigns (that i've enjoyed alot) i fell that the stakes have got higher. At least for me, each encounter was difficult. Dunno what to say about enemy AI, except that it really was a challenge (sometimes more sometimes less). What i have observed: the 109 AI is really better that the 190 AI. This made tho hole experience more "true" since it's absurd to return home with 6+ kills..... let's look at the real pilots how they fared. P.S. what is the AI level in this campaign? is it higher that in your previous ones? just asking for a friend..... 🙂

- typical for Black Six missions, the player experience is well taken into account: distance to target not too long, always something to do, but reality is well checked also: to finish, you have to return in friendly airstrip, and all the missions /encounters are painfully accurate descriptions of the actual historical data. ( it's a huge load of work, despite what some think "Not a big deal actually", ........)

- without having custom audios, the radio is very much alive

- despite setting my goal to just not die till the end, and acting realistic but bold, i've managed to fail it twice

So far, an exceptional campaign, with large level of replayability : i'm pretty sure i've missed tons of stuff....

And, YES, definitely a D-day campaign, only not its first days.

This time, I specifically tried to make the dogfights easier, as there were complaints about the difficulty in previous campaigns. Leaders are usually Normal, and wingmen are Low. But there are a lot of enemies... I test everything on autopilot, running missions dozens of times and ensuring that allies win the battles in most cases. Considering that the player will be flying manually, not on autopilot, and his actions are more effective than the AI (usually), this further increases the chances of victory.

Considering that this period each day at work is a piece of the Battle of Britain, and i fly usually 1 mission deep in the night, maybe i'm too terrible tired and my reflexes are low.

Still, in the mission "Somewhere near Caen" there was a 109G that was turning and climbing a bit strange, like a overpowered mig-17 !! If I tried to give chase, I blacked out too soon. Took me about 20 min to get him to the deck with some 90 degrees snapshots. Still, really rewarding.

Can't stick my nose into the editor to check enemy AI level, that's why I was asking.

Very entertaining and challenging mission.

What i forgot to mention is that the missions are well optimised: never dropped the fps below 80 during furballs with sooo many planes around.

Also the fact that you have a mission goal and that might change enroute, that's also immersive.

Thank you))

Difficulty and performance tuning are always very delicate processes, as they require catering to different groups of players with varying skill levels and PC configurations. All of this makes campaign development a bit of a crazy endeavor))

So, with regret that it's over, finished this awesome 15 mission long campaign.

The final thoughts are those from posts above, just adding that a special mention goes to the "Good bye, old friend" mission: the hole setup made me feel like living a move. Patrolling with constant sweeps away from the designated path to check contacts (friend of foe?), meaningfull 🙂 encounters, determined enemies and, fate! On the return route, with about half the ammo remaining and two victories to drink for, spotted a motorised convoy on retreat. So gathered the squad and went for some more ground work. After bringing a bit of havoc on that column, I was aiming a tanker truck, on a shallow path, no more than 15 meters above mother Earth. As the truck went boom! and I passed through the hell of flames and debrits, so passed away my engine and propeller.....

Since speed was high, about 350 km/h, and i was perfectly lined with the road, I just rolled out my wheels, and made a nice landing. But those Krauts I was blasting just secs before were behind.....so I really hope my pilot didn't get captured.....

And so went on my third (3/3) mission failed. Really entertaining.

Now, pls, @BlackSix, give me a piece of advice: while we all hungry wait for the continuation of this campaign, what should I pick next for my "W front allied tour"? what scripted campaign would you recommend? I have them all. .The Griffons, maybe?

Thank you very much for this.

Unfortunately, I have no time to follow other authors' campaigns, so I can only offer advice based on my own works.
Next up is the free Tempest campaign "Wind of Fury" which takes place 1.5 months after the end of "Ram Squadron". It runs from October 1, 1944 to January 1, 1945. After that, it's worth moving on to "Griffons", which runs from January 1, 1945 to February 21, 1945.
The upcoming Spitfires Mk.IXe campaign will run parallel to "Wind of Fury" from early October to January 1, 1945.

Thank you for your interest in my campaigns and detailed feedback.

@AndreiTomescu Wind of fury is great. The Tempest is an absolute monster. Enjoy folding the German fighters in half :classic_biggrin:
