Gutholz Posted January 11 Posted January 11 Hello, I have a question about using the flaps with this device: https://flightsimcontrols.com/product/gnx-wwii-throttle/ (Mine has a bit different colors. Might be an older model. I got it used, not sure on the exact name) In top-left there is a flaps-lever that can click to four positions. Each click-positon is a button: button 18,19,20,21. How can this be mapped in IL2 GB? I know the flaps work different in each aircraft. 1) For start I am wondering about the FW190 which has a number of fixed flaps positions - like my device. In IL2 keymapping options I only see two buttons for flaps in/out. 2) Also, on some aircraft you can set flaps freely from 0% to 100% Is it possible to map something like this: button 18 = 0% flaps button 19 = 25% flaps button 20 = 50% flaps button 21 = 100% flaps thanks 🙂 Quote
Aapje Posted January 12 Posted January 12 (edited) The difficulty is that the planes are all different. To avoid a complicated mapping, IL-2 only supports flaps up and down buttons, that you press once for the planes that have fixed positions, to go up or down a position. For those with gradual flap adjustment, you hold the button until the flap is where you want it. I principle, you can use the VKB programming tool to mimic some stuff. The easiest is to set it up for the fixed flap positions. It should be possible to trigger a flap down virtual button when going from real button 18 to 19, from 19 to 20, etc. And then to generate a flap up virtual button press when going from real button 19 to 18, 20 to 19, etc. Then to make it work the best, you should have a different mapping depending on the number of flap positions of the plane. However, that is not going to work for planes with gradual flap adjustment. In that case, a theoretical option is to configure the hold and release time for the button, so when you go from button 18 to 19, the flaps down button will automatically be held as long as needed to get to about 25%, although you may have to vary that time per plane. Also, this is not going to work well with time compression. Then depending on the plane, you can load the appropriate config in the VKB software. If you want to do any of this, I suggest asking on the VKB discord, where the people live who know exactly how to do this kind of magic. Edited January 12 by Aapje Quote
Gutholz Posted January 14 Author Posted January 14 Ok thanks. A bit more cumbersome than I would have liked. IL2 already supports different input-profiles per plane, so different flaps system should not have been problematic to support. The VBK-software interface seems powerful but confusing. 🙃 Quote

It replicas the two-way spring loaded toggle, except you return it to center manually rather than the spring. Quote
