A SHORT AND STORY ABOUT THE SPANISH PILOTS WHO PARTICIPATED IN THE WAR OVER THE KOREAN PENINSULA. AND WHOSE FIGHT ENDED IN A DRAW OVER THE 28TH PARALLEL

1952: “The Longest Winter” OVER THE KOREAN PENINSULA…

KOREA, 1952 – 28TH PARALLEL
The sky over the Korean peninsula had a metallic hue, as if winter had decided to stay forever. Raúl Suárez knew this well: each mission was a battle against the cold, against the enemy, and against his own luck. But nothing had prepared him for the day he lost sight of the plane. They were flying in formation over hostile territory when a cloud of anti-aircraft fire exploded beneath them. Raúl barely had time to hear Enrique's voice on the radio, broken, vibrant, human:
The voice of his comrade and friend, Enrique Moreno.

“They’ve given me… I’m going to try…”—and then, silence.

The radar confirmed Raúl’s worst fears: Enrique’s aircraft had crashed beyond the line, deep in North Korean territory. A white hell.

THE WAIT…
For hours, Raúl circled the area, defying orders and running out of fuel, searching for any sign. Finally… “A glimmer in the snow!”: An improvised mirror, moved by a trembling hand. Enrique was still alive. But rescuing him was another story. Winter made flying the H-5 helicopters of the time almost impossible, fragile machines against the icy wind. Moreover, the area was riddled with enemy positions. Even so, the US Navy pilots and officers never abandoned their men.

THE OPERATION UNDERWAY…
The mission was planned in minutes and executed in days. Each attempt was a dangerous dance: helicopters getting too close, enemy fire forcing them to retreat, ground attack support aircraft—P-47 Thunderbolts, F-4 Corsais, P-51D Mustangs, Skyraiders—roaring over the hills to clear a corridor for survival.

Raúl participated in every sortie, in his P-51D guiding the pilots from the air, marking targets, protecting the area where Enrique held out with a pistol, a thermal blanket, and an unwavering will to survive. Iron.

On the third attempt, when the sun was barely a pale smudge through the clouds, a helicopter managed to land in an improvised clearing. Enrique, nearly frozen, staggered toward it. Enemy gunners opened fire, but the support planes descended like hawks, covering the retreat with surgical precision.

The Return
When the helicopter finally crossed the Allied line, Raúl felt winter relent a little. At the base, seeing Enrique climb out of the aircraft, wrapped in bandages and smiling, he embraced him without a word.
They had survived the cold, the enemy, and fear. And although the war would continue, that day they both understood something essential: in the frozen skies of Korea, friendship was the best fuel.

Not sure what the point of posting this nonsense here is Span?

You are aware of the history of your own country yes?

No Spanish pilots took part in the Korean war. No units of the Spanish military took part in the Korean war. Spain was not a member of the UN in 1950.

At the time Spain was still treated as a pariah nation as it was ruled by Europe's last fascist dictator....

Neither did any P-47 ever enter Korean airspace during any phase of the war.  Only AI would ever dream that one up.
