1. Download JSGME (Jones Generic Mod Enabler)

http://www.softpedia.com/get/Others/Miscellaneous/Generic-Mod-Enabler.shtml

2. Unzip JSGME to your main BOS folder...

3. Run JSGME.exe that was placed in that folder. (You can right click the JSGME exe icon and place a shortcut to your desktop for easy access.)

4. JSGME will start and a screen will display.

5. Now close JSGME. This sets up the proper location for the JSGME MODs folder for your BOS install.

6. JSGME is now properly installed.

Now for your MODs that work with JSGME....

1. Download desired MOD zip file or files

2. Unzip your selected mod to the MOD folder that JSGME set up in the BOS main directory.....

3. Start JSGME....a new screen will open.

4. On the left side of the JSGME screen will be the list of MODs you have available.

5. Move the MOD you want to the right side of the JSGME screen. JSGME will install it.

6. Close JSGME

7. Start BOS and your selected MODs will be available.

JSGME backs-up your original installation. If you don't like a mod, then simply move the MOD back to the left side of the screen and JSGME will uninstall it AND put BOS back to its original configuration....

Note that when you unzip your mod into your mod folder be careful to check the resulting folder structure. It should be \MODs folder name\mod folder name\data\mod folder contents and not \MODs folder name\mod folder name\mod folder name\data\mod folder contents. If you accidentally have the latter, then mod will enable ok in JSGME, but the game will not recognise the mod and will ignore it.

EG MODS\AAAmod\data\luascripts etc is correct. However, MODS\AAAmod\AAAmod\data\luascripts etc is not correct and will not work.

Also, from my collection of documents below is the JSGME manual. A suggestion for those people using multiple mods, take a look at mod profiles on page 14. They make your life much easier

@LukeFF Could you please make this a sticky post as it is a useful reference for anyone using mods.

Sorry if being a dumb here, but which is the main folder in Il-2? Is it the the game folder contained in the bin folder? That one has the game exe file, so I presume that is where this should go, but wanted to double check before doing anything.

So, for me for example it is E:\games\IL-2 Sturmovik Great Battles

IE the top-level folder for Il2

Ah 0k. Thanks. What was confusing me was that I thought it had to be in the exact subfolder within il-2 that had housed the il-2 exe file. Thanks again 🙂

It's missing the 8th step: make sure your IL2 copy is waiting for mod use (in-game): Settings > Game > Check the option "Enable mods".

That depends upon the nature of the mod. For example, the various mods that replace the stock cockpit photos with other types of photos or information do not require checking “Enable mods” to be seen and used in game, and also in most multiplayer servers.

But that is an important step for the more significant mods that are not allowed in most multiplayer servers, and thus require “Enable mods” be checked.

I think CasterTroy (the author of the list in the old forum) assumed that if you were trying to use mods you would have already turned them on in the launcher or menu. IE A prerequisite. You aren't wrong however in thinking it is usually something you have to do. It does catch people out at times.

Hi Stonehouse, I'm experiencing a problem with My JSGME,  I download a MOD [ Missions ]  into the installer then transfer from left screen to right screen, I then enable MODS in the main game, but the MOD is not showing in the mission screen, I notice in the JSGME manual that you make a note of checking the correct installation path. Which look similar, but only one is correct

Cheers

In general please provide in case of such issues a screenshot of the Mod's folder structure:

Example:

And just check, if after the installation with JSGME if the folder with the Missions is in your IL-2's data\Missions main folder

Bit of a novice at all this , but I shall check it out if I can, but thank you for your help

This nearly always means an incorrect path. As Kraut1 suggested, take a screen shot of the mod path of the mod you are trying to install and post it here so we can see what is incorrect.

Also, watch out for the 'double folder' issue.

Sometimes when you unzip a mod, it can create the same folder inside the unzipped folder....so just make sure that you check the unzipped folder so you only copy the one folder that contains the mod files inside 👍
